On Sunday night, Neymar scored directly from a corner for Santos in a 3-0 victory over Internacional de Limeira, providing the ideal answer to jeering supporters.
On nine minutes, the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain player strolled to the side of the field to take a corner, having already helped Tiquinho Soares score the game’s first goal.
Neymar was the focus of jeers and boos from the home crowd as he approached the corner flag.
Before taking the corner, the 33-year-old put his hand to his ear and urged the audience to jeer him even louder, seemingly enjoying his role as the pantomime villain.
Shortly after, Neymar blasted in a spectacular shot that almost missed the goalie before hitting the far post and into the net.
The sound of Santos supporters yelling with joy immediately took the place of the jeering.
Neymar, meanwhile, sat on a nearby advertising hoarding, crossed his arms, and then gave a cheeky shrug of his shoulders in response to the ball hitting the net.
Tiquinho scored his second goal of the evening after he put him up, earning him another assist.
Since rejoining his boyhood club from Saudi Pro League team Al-Hilal on January 30, Neymar has made six appearances for Santos.
After converting a penalty kick in last weekend’s 3-1 victory over Agua Santa at home, he now has two goals in his second stint with Santos.
Prior to leaving Brazil for Barcelona, Neymar scored 136 goals for Santos as a senior between 2009 and 2013.
He scored 105 goals in 186 games for Barcelona, 118 in 173 games for PSG, and 79 in 128 games for Brazil in international competition.
But injury problems marred his 18-month stay at Al-Hilal, as he only managed one goal in seven appearances for the Saudi team.
