Neymar Jr., a Brazilian football player, has been named president of FURIA’s Kings League Brazil squad.
The football player will establish a squad and compete in the President’s Penalty in the seven-a-side football league, according to the esports organization.
Building FURIA’s team of players during the Kings League Brazil draft stage will be Neymar Jr.’s first task as president.
The Kings competition is a seven-a-side football competition that was first launched in Spain in 2022 by well-known Spanish streamer Ibai Llanos and former professional player Gerard Piqué. The league has entered new markets, including Brazil and Italy, since its founding.
FURIA is one of several teams with ties to esport that will compete in the Kings League Brazil tournament in São Paulo from March to April.
In addition to G3X FC, whose president is Brazilian content producer Alexandre “Gaules” Borba Chiqueta, other teams competing in the Kings League are Fluxo and LOUD, two Brazilian esports organizations.
Teams will have 13 players total, with 10 chosen through a draft in which participating teams choose players who will play for their organizations all season long.
According to Neymar Jr., “Everyone who follows me knows the affection and identification I have had for FURIA since day zero.”
Being able to contribute more actively now, even if it’s only in the background, makes me very happy. When the schedule permits, I would want to attend. With the roster that has been put together, I have no doubt that we will always have a strong presence in every game.
Neymar Jr. will take part in the President’s Penalty in addition to helping to create FURIA’s team.
During games, clubs can choose to activate the President’s Penalty rule. The team’s president takes a penalty kick to score a goal when it is triggered.
Neymar Jr. has experience in the esports industry. The football player took part in showmatches at the 2024 Esports World Cup while playing for the Saudi Arabian team Al Hilal. In support of FURIA, he has also gone to Counter-Strike events in Brazil.
