NEW CAREER: Wayne Rooney begins new work in Middle East as Manchester United legend touches down for first day since leaving Plymouth

WAYNE ROONEY has begun a new role in Dubai after leaving Plymouth Argyle in December.

The Manchester United legend has traveled for the February half-term break, soaking up the sun alongside other former professionals.

Rooney has secured a coaching position with Football Escapes, where he teaches young children at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai.

Football Escapes offers a family vacation package at the hotel, allowing kids to train under the guidance of former players, including Rooney, Michael Owen, and Mark Noble.

On the first day, Rooney led a group while wearing a Football Escapes shirt, as delighted parents filmed the activities.

Packages range from £7,500 to £8,650 for a five-day stay at the luxurious hotel.

WAYNE Rooney made headlines when he debuted for Everton in 2002.

He quickly became the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer at 16 years and 342 days and was named the BBC’s Young Sports Personality of the Year.

In 2004, he joined Manchester United and spent 13 years at Old Trafford, making 559 appearances and scoring 253 goals, still holding the record as the club’s all-time leading scorer.

After his time with United, Rooney returned to Everton for a season and later had stints with D.C. United and Derby County.

In addition to his impressive club career, Rooney is England’s second-highest goalscorer, netting 53 goals in 120 appearances, trailing only Harry Kane.

After retiring, the England icon transitioned into management.

He took charge of Derby County in 2020, managing to narrowly avoid relegation in his first season.

However, due to a 21-point deduction the next season, he couldn’t prevent their drop and subsequently left.

Rooney then had a 15-month tenure with MLS side D.C. United but parted ways with the club after the 2023 regular season, following a disappointing stint.

In October 2023, he controversially took over Birmingham, replacing John Eustace, but endured a tough run, suffering nine defeats in 15 matches before being sacked in January 2024 with the club in 20th place, ultimately relegating to League One.

He returned to management in May with Plymouth Argyle but achieved only five wins in 25 games, leaving him without a position once more.

While searching for a new full-time role, he returned to punditry last week with Prime Video, covering Manchester City’s Champions League defeat to Real Madrid during his debut for the broadcaster.
