MANCHESTER UNITED fans have labeled Ruben Amorim a “COWARD” for waiting until “garbage time” to bring on teen sensation Chido Obi-Martin during their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham on Sunday.
Obi-Martin, a 17-year-old striker, was one of EIGHT youngsters on the bench, following injuries to several senior players like Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo. This left Amorim with little choice but to include the youth players to fill the squad.
Despite Spurs making all five of their substitutions, United remained unchanged until the 91st minute, when Amorim finally decided to introduce Obi-Martin for Casemiro.
The young striker has been impressive in the U18s, setting new youth league records since joining from Arsenal last summer. However, with only moments left in the match against Spurs, he had little opportunity to make an impact on his senior debut.
Fans took to social media to express their frustration with Amorim’s late decision. Comments included:
“Should have been 30 minutes ago.”“Unacceptable from Ruben and sends the wrong message completely.”“What was the point bringing him on for three minutes?”“I can’t forgive Amorim for not making a single sub until the 90th minute.”
The reaction reflects the growing dissatisfaction among supporters regarding the management decisions, especially in a time of need for fresh energy and creativity on the pitch.
