“Thank you for being a stay-at-home parent and homeschooling us all. Thank you for being the last one to sleep and the first to wake up. Thank you for washing so many clothes and dishes for us as we grew up. Thank you for all the meals you prepared. Thank you for making sure we attended our AAU tournaments and summer camps, even when funds were tight. Most importantly, thank you and Dad for teaching us to trust and rely on God! I know I can be difficult at times, but all I want is to make you proud.”

Porter Jr. is the oldest of eight Porter children, but he’s not the only athlete. His two eldest sisters, Bri and Cierra, played for Mizzou’s women’s basketball team, while his brother Jontay also played for the Tigers.

Since 2017, their father has been an assistant coach for Mizzou’s men’s basketball team. However, he isn’t t

he most impressive basketball parent in the Porter family. That honor goes to Lisa Porter, who was an outstanding player herself. She averaged nearly 60 points per game in her senior year of high school before excelling at Iowa’s women’s basketball team, where she was named “Miss Basketball.”

Lisa may have set aside her pro aspirations to become a mother, but she is now the matriarch of an incredible basketball family. Now, she has a brand-new car to show for it.
