TRANSFER TARGET: Manchester United Closing in on £30M Deal for Lecce Defender Patrick Dorgu

Manchester United is nearing the completion of a £30m deal to sign Patrick Dorgu from Lecce. The 20-year-old left wing-back is eager to join the Premier League club, and personal terms are not anticipated to pose any issues. Dorgu has made 53 appearances for Lecce in Serie A since his arrival from Danish club Nordsjaelland in 2022 and has also earned four caps for Denmark.

The transfer discussions have advanced significantly, with many terms agreed upon. Ongoing negotiations are focused on the deal’s structure, which would mark Dorgu as Ruben Amorim’s first signing as Manchester United’s manager. As reported by Sky Sports News, left wing-back has been identified as a priority position, making this transfer highly likely to proceed regardless of the club’s circumstances.

Dorgu’s rapid rise, having debuted in senior football just last year, underscores his ambition to take the next step in his career. Lecce, fighting to maintain their Serie A status for a third consecutive season, scouted Dorgu from FC Nordsjaelland’s esteemed academy before he had even made his breakthrough.

Alexander Riget, their technical director, noted that their scouting team recognized his potential early on, making a five-hour drive to observe him at just 12 years old. Initially playing up a year in the U13 team, Dorgu wasn’t an immediate standout, but he developed significantly around 16 or 17.

Riget reflected on Dorgu’s unique path, saying, “His journey is a little different from many of our other players. Normally, they play 50 to 100 games before moving to a bigger club.” He added, “We are very happy about his situation at the moment.”
