Carlo Ancelotti’s team cruised into the last 16 of Spain’s cup competition with an impressive performance against lower-league opponents.
Real Madrid overwhelmed fourth-tier Deportivo Minera in the Copa del Rey on Monday evening, with Luka Modric and Arda Guler orchestrating a dominant midfield display that led Los Blancos to a 5-0 triumph.
Guler netted two goals, while Modric contributed one, as the duo controlled the game and secured an easy cup victory. Madrid quickly established their dominance, with Guler and Endrick creating good chances right from the start. Federico Valverde opened the scoring just five minutes in with a well-placed volley, capitalizing on some poor defending from Minera. Eduardo Camavinga followed suit shortly after, heading in at the far post. Guler made it three before halftime with a deflected shot that left the goalkeeper wrong-footed, giving Madrid a comfortable lead.
The second half saw no let-up. Modric capped a stellar performance with his first-ever Copa del Rey goal, making it 4-0. Guler added another late in the match, finishing a fluid team move with a simple side-footed effort into an empty net.
There were attempts from Vinicius Jr. and Kylian Mbappe to get on the scoresheet, but it was otherwise a controlled display from Madrid. They never looked threatened and easily dispatched their lower-league rivals, moving confidently into the round of 16.
Goalkeeper & Defence
Andriy Lunin (6/10): Had little to do, making only one routine save from a weak shot.
Lorenzo Aguado (6/10): A mixed debut performance; showed promise but also made a few questionable decisions. A valuable learning experience.
Raul Asencio (7/10): Solid at the back after losing his starting spot. Should be in contention for more regular minutes.
Diego Aguado (7/10): Impressive showing from the teenager, who handled a relatively quiet evening with maturity.
Fran Garcia (7/10): Actively pushed up the left flank and looked to create opportunities in attack.
