Ruben Amorim expressed his frustration and disappointment with Manchester United’s performance in their draw against Liverpool, highlighting their lack of fighting spirit in previous matches.
After Lisandro Martinez scored first, Liverpool rallied with goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah. However, Amad Diallo equalized in the 80th minute. Amorim noted that this was an improvement over recent weeks but was still disheartened, urging his team to build on this result.
“I’m more upset because of our previous games,” he stated. “It’s tough to comprehend certain things. This isn’t just about the system or technique; it’s about something deeper.”
He continued, “While I’m pleased with the performance, I’m the only one allowed to be upset today — but we played as a team. We’ve had some strong matches recently, but we need to maintain that consistency. We discussed this after our win against Manchester City, and it remains vital.”
Amorim emphasized the importance of mentality, saying, “Today, we were a different team, not due to the system or tactics. We approached the competition as we should, treating every training session and match with the same seriousness, regardless of the opponent.”
Captain Bruno Fernandes echoed these sentiments, acknowledging the criticism the team has faced due to their position in the table. “We’ve dropped too many points. Even today, we can’t be satisfied with a draw; we need points more than they do.”
He added, “It was a good and fair result, with both teams playing intense football. I’m upset because if we can perform like this against Liverpool at Anfield, the top team in the Premier League, why can’t we maintain this level every week?”
