Mohamed Salah could soon begin discussions with clubs regarding a potential free transfer as his contract situation edges closer to a critical stage.
MO SALAH propelled Liverpool to an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League, delivering a stellar performance before issuing another contract warning.
The Egyptian King notched a goal and provided two assists as Arne Slot’s side put five past West Ham in a commanding display.
3Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah revealed a new contract is still ‘far away’
Salah, whose contract expires this summer and will be free to negotiate with overseas clubs in just two days, admitted that a new deal with Liverpool remains “far away.”
He explained, “No, we are far away from that, and I don’t want to put anything in the media and have people start saying things.
“Right now, I’m focused on the team. The only thing on my mind is for Liverpool to win the league—I just want to be part of that.”
“That has been my focus since the start of the season,” Salah added.
“I’ll do my best to help the team win a trophy. We’re heading in the right direction, but there are other teams closing in, so we need to stay focused, humble, and keep pushing.”
Luis Diaz opened the scoring before Salah set up Cody Gakpo with a brilliant turn and added his own goal before halftime.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s deflected strike made it four, and Salah capped off his stellar performance by assisting Diogo Jota for an 84th-minute goal.
Salah has hit the 20-goal mark in all eight of his seasons at Liverpool and has now scored and assisted in eight different league games this season—a new Premier League record.
Manager Arne Slot praised the Egyptian’s brilliance, saying: “Mo and the word extraordinary seem to go hand in hand. It’s something I’ve heard often in the last six months, and he truly deserves it—not just now, but over the last eight years. I’ve only been here for half a year, but he’s exceptional.”
“I don’t think he keeps surprising us. We know what a player he is and we know he’s able to do so.
“But apart from that, he works really hard for the team also when the other team has the ball and yeah, we can only hope that he can keep bringing these performances in.
“But I would like to add that if he scores, there’s also a lead up to him scoring.
“So there are also other players that bring him in these positions, but if you bring Mo in these positions, he’s extraordinary.”
While Liverpool were rampant, West Ham offered little threat and no fight before being booed off at the London Stadium.
Boss Julen Lopetegui said: “We are very sad for our fans. I am very sorry about this. It is true that they deserve more. It has been a bad day for us for sure.
“The fans are always right and we understand them for sure.
“We are trying to become competitive, sometimes we achieve this but we have to be better in these kind of matches at home in the second part of the season.”
