Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has defended Andre Onana following his mistake in conceding another goal directly from a corner.
WHAT HAPPENED?Onana conceded a goal directly from a corner during Manchester United’s 2-0 loss to Wolves on Sunday.
Remarkably, the goalkeeper had also conceded an Olimpico against Tottenham in a 4-3 defeat in the Carabao Cup quarter-final. However, manager Ruben Amorim defended Onana, claiming that the goalkeeper was obstructed and unable to reach the ball at Molineux.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
United were level with the Molineux side before Bruno Fernandes was sent off. Cunha scored from the corner, then Hwang Hee-Chan rounded out the victory in injury time.
United have now lost four of their last five fixtures and languish in 14th in the Premier League.
WHAT AMORIM SAID
Amorim told reporters, when asked if Onana was fouled: “I think he cannot go to the ball. He’s trying to reach the ball and some guys are not even looking at the ball but I don’t want to focus on that. I think the good thing is we were near the goal, even with 10 men. That is a good thing, but we lost.”
