Dutch pundit Rene van der Gijp believes that PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ismael Saibari will eventually join Arsenal.
The Morocco international has become a crucial player for PSV this season, contributing four goals and six assists in 16 appearances. The 23-year-old primarily plays as a central attacking midfielder, similar to Martin Odegaard’s role for the Gunners.
On the Vandaag Inside podcast, Van der Gijp expressed confidence in Saibari’s potential to reach the European elite in the coming years and stated, “I’m really convinced” that he will end up at Arsenal.
Van der Gijp remarked, “I think I will soon be proven right. Saibari is the only player in the PSV squad who will reach the European top. Just watch. He has such drive and possesses all the qualities of a complete midfielder. He’s always active. I truly believe he’ll end up at Arsenal.”
Arsenal’s Current Midfield SituationHowever, Arsenal may not pursue Saibari, as they currently rely on Martin Odegaard as their primary central attacking midfielder, who has been consistently excellent. Fabio Vieira, originally considered his backup, was loaned back to Porto last summer after failing to make an impact.
17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri is now Odegaard’s immediate backup. Given this situation, it seems unlikely that Arsenal will seek another attacking midfielder, as manager Mikel Arteta wouldn’t want to hinder Nwaneri’s development.
The club might instead focus on strengthening their wide attacking positions. A versatile marquee winger would be ideal, especially since Nico Williams has recently indicated a willingness to move to the Premier League. Arsenal showed genuine interest in the Spaniard over the summer and could make a significant approach following his change of stance.
