Jude Bellingham, who converted a penalty kick to give the opposing goalie a “chilling” message, opened the scoring for Real Madrid in their 2-0 victory over Getafe with incredible poise.
The referee awarded a penalty after Allan Nyom fouled Antonio Rudiger in the penalty area, ending the game without a goal. Bellingham came to the penalty spot with confidence, in contrast to Kylian Mbappe, who missed one in a recent loss to Liverpool. After making a small feint and pausing to see David Soria, the goalkeeper, move, he calmly put the ball into the opposite corner.
Bellingham turned and gestured with two fingers to his eyes after scoring, saying he had “observed very carefully” what the goalie was doing. Social media went into overdrive when he made this self-assured move, with admirers complimenting his calm manner and joking that he had taught Mbappe the correct way to take a penalty.
Bellingham had a neck problem that led to his substitution in the first half, despite his outstanding play. Carlo Ancelotti, the coach, reassured everyone after the game that the injury was not serious. “He couldn’t continue playing because of a minor neck issue, but it’s not a serious injury,” he said.
The team performed admirably today, according to Ancelotti, who also gave his thoughts on the game: “The team played well, balanced, and showed great fighting spirit.” Real Madrid battled valiantly in spite of numerous obstacles, particularly injuries. The fact that everyone on the team has recovered their focus, attitude, and energy is what gives me confidence. We will continue to battle and find solutions to the issues one step at a time.
