Ibrahima Konate’s injury has come at perhaps the worst possible time for Liverpool, with the season having just entered its most frantic period.
The French center-back sustained a knee issue during the closing stages of Wednesday’s win over Real Madrid and will reportedly be sidelined for five to six weeks.
If that turns out to be the case, Konate will miss all of Liverpool’s remaining fixtures this year, which is a major blow considering the Reds play nine more times in 2024.
Next up, of course, is the blockbuster game against Manchester City, before the Reds go to Newcastle and Everton over the following week.
A third away game in succession, against Girona in the Champions League, is next up, before the Reds welcome Fulham to Anfield in the league.
Liverpool then faces Southampton at St. Mary’s in the EFL Cup before a Premier League trip to Tottenham. Boxing Day sees Leicester travel to Anfield, before Arne Slot’s men round out the year with a trip to West Ham on December 29.

Joe Gomez is set to fill in for Konate in the coming weeks, if he remains available, with Slot appearing to prefer the former Charlton defender over Jarell Quansah at the moment.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was an unused substitute against Madrid, is also expected to replace Gomez in Liverpool’s lineup against City on Sunday.
Conor Bradley started ahead of Alexander-Arnold in the 2-0 victory, but he is now expected to miss time with a hamstring injury suffered in the second half.
