According to Neymar Santos, his son could be a bargain for any club if he leaves Al Hilal as a free agent in 2025.
Neymar’s contract with Al Hilal runs until June 2025. With no extension talks underway, the 32-year-old—who has played only seven matches in over a year due to injuries—could depart next summer on a free transfer. Neymar currently earns $110 million annually.
“Let’s see what happens and how Neymar feels,” Santos said on the Roundcast podcast on November 24. “For the first time, he’ll be free to choose his next move. Having a 32-year-old player of his caliber available for free is a gift.”
Santos revealed he has never planned Neymar’s transfers, except for his move to Barcelona in 2013.
Earlier this month, Brazilian media speculated that Neymar could return home to play for Santos, Palmeiras, or Botafogo. However, Santos dismissed these rumors.
Neymar has been sidelined since October 2023 with an ACL injury. After returning briefly in October 2024, he suffered a thigh injury that will keep him out for the rest of the year.
Despite this, Santos is optimistic about his son’s recovery, stating that Neymar has always returned stronger and will do so again.
In June 2025, Al Hilal is set to compete in the FIFA Club World Cup as one of the last four AFC Champions League winners. Santos believes Neymar will regain top form to help the team in the tournament.
“They have one of the biggest stars to compete at this level. That’s why they won’t let go during the second year of his contract,” he added.
Neymar has scored 136 goals for Santos, 105 for Barcelona, 118 for PSG, and a record 79 for Brazil. Since joining Al Hilal in July 2023, he has played seven matches and scored once. The Saudi club paid PSG $98 million in transfer fees and offers Neymar a $110 million annual salary, both club records.
