Andy Robertson marked a milestone personal occasion with a brilliant stoppage-time winner for Scotland on Monday night.
Robertson captained his country against Poland in Warsaw and in doing so brought up the total of 80 appearances in senior international football – the joint-third-most for Scotland’s men’s side.
In the third minute of the UEFA Nations League match, Reds teammate Ben Doak had helped the visitors score with a pass to John McGinn.
Just before the hour, the home team tied the score, but Robertson’s spectacular header at the far post in extra time gave the Scots a 2-1 triumph. As a consequence, they moved up to third position in League A, Group One, while the hosts dropped to the bottom of the standings.
Andy Robertson used every ounce of his experience to help Scotland defend, has a few misplaced passes but was fortunate not to see a poor pass lead to a Poland equaliser. He had the last laugh with his late goal.
Ben Doak got into some good forward positions and was on hand to tee up McGinn for his goal and looked a real threat with his pace and direct play.
Elsewhere in the Nations League, Conor Bradley was on target for Northern Ireland five minutes into the second half of their eventual 2-2 draw at Luxembourg.
The Liverpool defender also netted with a back-post header – a fourth strike at senior level for his country – before Luxembourg rallied from two down to equalise.
Bradley was subsequently named Player of the Match.
