Curtis Jones scored on his senior England debut on Thursday evening with four Reds seeing UEFA Nations League action.
Lee Carlsey picked the Liverpool midfielder to start for his nation for the first time, and he assisted the Three Lions in defeating Greece 3-0 in Athens.
Jones’ bold flick inside the box added to an Ollie Watkins goal and an own goal from Odysseas Vlachodimos to give his country their third goal of the evening.
On making on an impression on his debut, Jones said: “I tried, I tried! The lads around helped as well. I just went out there and I was playing free and I had a smile on my face. I was enjoying it and I’m happy I came away with a goal as well.”
He added: “When you’ve got a team like ours I can go high and I can come low and I can get on the ball and I can play. There’s lads there to help and there’s also lads who said I can go [forward] as well. Jude [Bellingham] stayed back, so I saw I had a chance to go and lucky enough I scored.”

While Jarell Quansah was an unused substitute for England following his late promotion from the U21s squad.
Elsewhere, goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher made a decisive intervention for the Republic of Ireland in Dublin, saving a penalty in the 77th minute to help his country to a 1-0 win over Finland after Evan Ferguson’s earlier strike in the opening half.
Ibrahima Konate also helped keep a clean sheet, as the centre-back featured for France in their 0-0 draw with Israel in Paris.
