Arsenal is worried about injuries to Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice that they got in a rough London derby match against Chelsea. Mikel Arteta didn’t do much to calm people down after the game.
Gabriel Martinelli’s calm close-range strike gave the Gunners the lead against Enzo Maresca’s team on the hour mark. However, Pedro Neto’s long-range effort leveled the game 10 minutes later.
It was a good point for Arsenal after a string of bad results, but two of their best players got hurt in the second half, which took away from the game’s quality.
Rice wasn’t sure if he would be able to play because he broke his toe before the game. He seemed to hobble off in the 71st minute, before his England partner Saka was replaced after being tackled hard by the game’s MVP, Marc Cucurella.
After the tie, Arteta sent out a scary report about the injuries the two players had.
“To be fair, they don’t look very good,” he said. It’s not good that they both couldn’t finish the game. I don’t know if it’s long-term.
Arteta won’t be the only one worried about their health; Lee Carsley, the manager of their national team, also needs the two Arsenal stars to be fit for the international break.
Coming up are two important Nations League games for the Three Lions: one against Greece and one against Ireland. These are the temporary manager’s last two games in charge before handing over to new manager Thomas Tuchel.
If Rice and Saka are ruled out for the international games, it could be good for Arteta because they would have two weeks to get fit for Arsenal’s next game on November 23 against Nottingham Forest, who are on a roll.
Even though Odegaard’s return for the London game may have given Arsenal a boost, Arteta is still having trouble with injuries in his team.
Defenders Takehiro Tomiyasu, Riccardo Calafiori, and Kieran Tierney are still not in the running because of problems that have been going on for a long time.
But everyone is likely to have a chance to give the Spanish player a boost by coming back after the holiday.
There was a great fight on the flanks between Saka and Cucurella in Sunday’s tense game, and the Blues star won in the end.
After getting the man of the match award, the former Brighton player told Sky Sports, “Saka is a great player. We play each other a lot, so I respect him a lot and I work hard at my job.”
“That was a good fight, and I hope I can do more like it.” I try to keep close to him at all times and not give him any room. He is very talented, so I need to do my job and help my team by doing my job.
“I played my best today, and we got a point.”
Arsenal missed a late chance to win all three points, but the game ended in a tie that didn’t help either team much. Both London teams are now nine points behind leaders Liverpool.
William Saliba picked up the ball on the left side, which isn’t where he usually is, and squared it across the face of the box. Leandro Trossard, who was stretching, was able to deflect it wide and past his frustrated teammates who were waiting behind him.
The much-anticipated clash matched a Chelsea team on the rise against an Arsenal team looking for their first Premier League win in four games. However, the first half was a dull affair.
While Kai Havertz was celebrating after a great finish, he thought he had given the Gunners the lead over his old team, but VAR showed that he was actually offside.
After Martinelli’s goal, the second half was a little more open, and after Chelsea’s equalizer, the ball was soon in the back of the net again.
