Arsenal are reportedly planning to sign Alexander Isak, a striker for Newcastle United, next year in an effort to address their striker shortage.
With just 18 points after 10 games in the Premier League season, the Gunners have gotten off to a disappointing start. The team needs to go on a winning streak if they are to remain in title contention, since they are currently seven points behind leaders Liverpool.
It has been difficult for Kai Havertz to score recently, after a strong start to the season in which he went on a scoring binge. According to Football Insider, Arsenal are considering a high-profile bid to get Isak to north London, but they may want to hold off until next summer before making a major deal.
RequiredIt was widely believed that Arsenal would sign a new marksman during the summer of 2016, but they ultimately decided not to. Crystal Palace acquired Eddie Nketiah from the Gunners. Because of this, they have become too dependent on Havertz, and Gabriel Jesus had a dry spell in front of goal.
While the January transfer market is open, the Gunners are not going to spend heavily. Getting the Magpies to approve of selling Isak might be a challenge, even if they have the budget for it. Although injuries have hindered the Swede’s play for the Magpies, he has consistently come back strong.
After missing time due to a fractured toe, the 25-year-old has scored twice in his last three league games upon his return, including the game-winning goal against Arsenal. Currently, he has not committed to a new long-term deal, but Newcastle still has a lot of leverage in negotiations.
There have been reports that he may cost more than £100 million, and his current contract does not expire until the summer of 2028. Eddie Howe, manager of the Magpies, has called him a “world-class” striker, therefore Arsenal will need to demonstrate desire by spending a lot of money to get him next summer.
