CLEARING THE NEGATIVE: Darwin Nunez winner makes it 11 wins from 12 for Arne Slot ahead of crunch clash with Arsenal

Jurgen Klopp will have once again been blown away by the team he left behind as he watches from his vacation home in Majorca, perhaps even wearing a half-and-half scarf.

Beginning on January 1, Klopp will serve as Red Bull’s “head of global soccer,” whatever that actually entails.

And it will be fascinating to watch where Liverpool will be under Klopp’s Arne Slot once he starts his £10 million position, which appears to be a glorified PR job.

It looks really damn good right now.

The Dutchman’s only loss came against Nottingham Forest, as Darwin’s Nunez scored the game-winning goal in the first half to make it 11 victories in 12.

In the second half, Liverpool had to endure intense pressure, but goalie Caoimhin Kelleher made a few crucial saves.

Liverpool had a very favorable starting schedule, but in recent days, the level of opposition has increased significantly.

first against a squad that is unbeaten in the Bundesliga and tied with Bayern Munich, and then against Chelsea, who are currently in excellent form.

However, Slot has helped his club win both of these challenging games, and Sunday’s matchup with Arsenal will be an even greater test.

Slot will undoubtedly struggle at some point, but even if he is new to English football, the club he inherited is undoubtedly not, and they occasionally played some fantastic football despite playing dangerously at the back.

Nunez’s close-range attempt occurred when Liverpool was fortunate to be tied and not behind by more than two goals.

Nunez helped a header from Mo Salah over the goal line, but it will have boosted the Uruguayan’s confidence even if he had only scored once this season.

Diogo Jota’s injury was the sole reason he was playing, and although Liverpool had some fitness concerns before the weekend, championship challengers Arsenal appear to be experiencing much more problems.

Slot’s squad can’t afford to play as open a center midfield as they did today at the Emirates.

Curtis Jones was named man-of-the-match at Anfield on Sunday. Although he started on the bench, Alexis Mac Allister, who replaced him, at first did not provide Ryan Gravenberch with adequate defensive support.

Mac Allister was also booked for a theatrical dive while home defender Castello Lukeba was lucky to avoid only a caution when sinking his studs into the foot of former Leipzig favourite Dominik Szoboszlai.

Leipzig, having lost their opening games against Atletico Madrid and Juventus, started with real purpose although they were made to pay for failing to take those early chances which fell to Benjamin Sesko and Amadou Haidara.

Alisson’s injury will keep Kelleher in goal for a few more weeks. But Slot will not want to see any repeats of the moment he rushed out of his area and failed to head the ball into touch.

Sesko had an open goal from a distance and should have scored, but his effort went wide.

Leipzig’s Belgian striker Lois Openda thought he had scored a cracker from outside the area but despite wagging his finger at the officials, he was miles offside.

And Nunez completed a cunning move from the visitors in less than 60 seconds. Until then, Liverpool’s only effort had been a shot wide by Salah but on this occasion, the Egyptian star headed Kostas Tsimikas’ cross into the bottom corner with Nunez making sure to nudge the ball over the line.

Leipzig keeper Peter Gulacsi, who spent five years at Liverpool without making an appearance, kept his team in the game by keeping out headers from Nunez and Virgil van Dijk.

Nunez was then furious with the officials as the striker thought he should have been given a penalty and there was definitely contact from Willi Orban.

Cody Gakpo wasted a good chance by firing straight at Gulacsi while Mac Allister curled a shot against the bar.

Yet Kelleher made those crucial saves to deny both Sesko and Xavi Simons and while Openda once again had the ball in the net, he was offside for a second time.

For Slot, it is now three wins out of three in the Champions League – only pipped into top spot by Premier League rivals Aston Villa on goal difference.

Even though former midfielder Xabi Alonso brings Bayer Leverkusen to Anfield next month, while Jude Bellingham’s Real Madrid will also visit, Liverpool looks as though they could finish in the top eight and avoid a play-off.Already, there will be a few Liverpool fans booking their hotels for Munich on May 31.

And to think many thought they would fall apart when Klopp packed his bags.
