FULL HERO line-up made dream come true – Vinicius Jr created IMPRESSIVE HAT-TRICK overtaking Kylian Mbappe, meanwhile Lucas Vazquez became the unsung hero of game with stunning passing

In a replay of the European final from the previous season, Carlo Ancelotti’s team pulled off another incredible comeback at Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid once again displayed Champions League magic on Tuesday, rallying their European campaign after falling behind 2-0 at halftime to defeat Borussia Dortmund 5-2. Even though Vinicius Jr. scored the second, fourth, and fifth goals for the Blancos that evening, Lucas Vazquez’s game-winning goal will go down as the highlight of an amazing evening.

After a back-and-forth first half, Dortmund took the lead. Donyell Malen received the ball from Serge Guirassy and slammed it past Thibaut Courtois, who was defenseless.

Four minutes later, Jamie Gittens scored the second goal by squeezing in at the back post after Malen’s cross. Madrid launched a quick offensive in response, but they did a respectable job of failing to score.

Jude Bellingham slammed a shot off the crossbar after missing a fantastic opportunity. Rodrygo struck the woodwork as well, but Gregor Kobel’s full-stretch save prevented an odd deflection.

After the break, Madrid, of course, woke up. After Nuri Sahin switched to a more conservative stance, the home team applied pressure, and the front line purred. Vinicius buried the equalizer less than two minutes after Toni Rudiger had opened the scoring with a header on Kylian Mbappe’s cross. After then, everything else seemed inevitable. After Vazquez scored a third goal, Vinicius scored two more spectacular goals to complete his hat-trick and win the Champions League again.

Real Madrid C.F. v Borussia Dortmund - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD3

Thibaut Courtois, goalkeeper and defense (7/10):

was powerless to stop either Dortmund goal. Soon after, a few nice saves were made to keep the situation tight enough. A crucial second save preserved the score at 2-2 just before Vazquez’s goal.

Vazquez Lucas (6/10):

From nothing to hero. missed his man at the back post for the second goal and gave the ball away in the run-up to the Dortmund first. then proceeded to score the game-winning goal in the eighty-third minute.

Militao Eder (6/10):

Great in the first half, but could have performed better in the second half against Dortmund.

Rudiger, Antonio (7/10):

did a fantastic job taking his header. the more effective of the two center-backs that evening.

Mendy Ferland (6/10):

The first goal may have been accomplished more skillfully by squeezing the spaces, while the second goal for Dortmund was simple.

Midfield

Federico Valverde (7/10):

Ran everywhere when he really could have done with holding his position a bit more. Much improved when played alongside a more traditional defensive midfielder.

Jude Bellingham (7/10):

A mixed bag. Had some lovely touches and was unfortunate to hit the bar. But he missed a couple of good chances and could have been cleaner on the ball.

Luka Modric (6/10):

A bit sloppy after an impressive showing at the weekend. Redeemed himself with a ridiculous pass in the run up to Madrid’s second.

Attack

Rodrygo (6/10):

Smashed one off the post. Although his link-up play was much superior in a number of areas, he could need a goal.

Mbappe Kylian (7/10):

Prior to helping Rudiger’s header, he was largely unknown; after it, he improved.

(10/10) Vinicius Jr.:

Defending it would be a nightmare. concluded with an amazing fifth goal, tied multiple opponents in knots, curled home the fourth, and scored the equalizer. The best in the world.

Subs & Manager

Camavinga Eduardo (7/10):

provided much-needed stability in the midfield during the second half.

Tchouameni Aurelien (N/A):

Too late to make a difference.

(N/A) Dani Ceballos:

Too late to make a difference.

Arda Guler (n/a):

Too late to make a difference.

Ancelotti, Carlo (7/10):

He chose a relatively attacking setup without a true defensive midfielder, which harmed him early because Madrid was sometimes far too exposed. But they turned it on after the break. He should be commended for sticking to his original system despite its flaws.
