Recent weeks have seen a lot of talk about Arda Guler’s predicament at Real Madrid, particularly in light of his remarkable exploits with Turkey over the international break.
The young midfielder’s status under Carlo Ancelotti was supposed to improve after his impressive performances over the previous two weeks, but if last night’s game is any indication, things are going south.
Ancelotti left Guler on the bench the entire time, clearly upset with his team’s performance last night and the obvious lack of inventiveness in midfield.
Even Dani Ceballos played for a few minutes that evening, indicating that the manager values experience more than Guler’s adaptability on any given day. However, there are rumors that Guler’s national team duty was a contributing factor in this decision.
Ancelotti seems to have “forgotten” the young player entirely from his possibilities, as disclosed in a recent update by SPORT, and the teen’s circumstances don’t seem to be getting any better.
The young player has only played 44 minutes in Real Madrid’s last five games, and he did not even start against Atletico Madrid or Celta Vigo.
He’s not likely to play in either of the upcoming games—Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona are up next—either.
Ironically, despite being a very versatile player who can play in both attack and midfield, Ancelotti’s conservative style has prevented the 19-year-old from making an impact on the squad in any position.
Big questions about his future will be raised in the forthcoming transfer windows if the situation doesn’t change.
The youthful player has averaged 1.3 crucial passes per game and has produced three major chances in his seven La Liga outings for Real Madrid thus far. But he only plays 37 minutes a game on average.
