The England team’s UEFA Nations League match against Greece at Wembley Stadium on Thursday night saw the forced withdrawal of Arsenal star Bukayo Saka.
Saka was included in the starting lineup for the Three Lions by interim manager Lee Carsley, despite having started every game for the Gunners this season. He continued until the 50th minute, at which point he hobbled off.
Saka appeared to be caught up in the build-up to Greece’s second-half opener, which was scored by Vangelis Pavlidis. After obtaining treatment from a physiotherapist, he went down as the guests celebrated and then left.
The Gunners, who lost captain Martin Odegaard to injury during the most recent international break, are dealt a severe blow. The club’s last appearance for the Norwegian standout came in a 1-1 home tie against Brighton on August 31.
Saka has made ten appearances for Arsenal in all competitions this year. In addition to his outstanding seven assists, he has scored three times.
When the 23-year-old went down at Wembley, there were no obvious signs of what the issue was. He was able to leave the field on his own, without any help.
Everyone at Emirates Stadium is hoping that Carsley’s post-match press conference will provide an update on the issue, which is causing concern.
