Manchester United flop Paul Pogba could be one of the stars at next summer’s Club World Cup.
The 31-year-old is set to return to football in March after revealing on Friday that he had successfully had his ban reduced on appeal. Now the Frenchman wants to get his career back on track.
Talks to terminate his contract with Juventus, which runs until the summer of 2026, are expected to begin as soon as the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) makes its ruling. Both the player and the club understand that terminating his contract is in their mutual interests.
Sources close to the player say his next steps are still in the early stages, but have hinted at interest from clubs participating in next summer’s 32-team Club World Cup. Pogba will be able to train and sign up for a new club starting in January.
His freshness for the summer tournament at a time when other players are recovering from long domestic and international seasons could be an advantage for a competitive side. Inter Miami, home to Lionel Messi, who could still be one of those competing sides, could be a possibility after Pogba featured in one of their games last month.
The French World Cup winner said in a statement released on Friday: “Finally the nightmare is over. I can look forward to the day when I can pursue my dream again. I have always stated that I never knowingly violated the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regulations when I took a nutritional supplement prescribed by a doctor, which does not affect or enhance the performance of male athletes.
