Declan Rice has said that playing for Arsenal, where the pressure is on to “win every game” and win titles, makes him very anxious to say the least.
After Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard scored goals, Mikel Arteta’s team won a tense game against Leicester on Saturday thanks to two goals from James Justin.
Nerves were high at the Emirates, though, and Wilfried Ndidi scored an own goal to put Arsenal back ahead. Kai Havertz scored late to seal the win.
The win kept the Gunners in the running for the Premier League title, and Rice said after the game that he and his teammates know they have to be perfect.
“The stress is through the roof because you know how hard it is to play for Arsenal and win every game,” he told reporters, as reported by The Mirror.
“Be at your best and win if you want to compete at the top and win Premier Leagues, cups, and titles. If you don’t, the pressure builds.”
“When they scored their second goal, one thought was, ‘We can’t lose this game, we have to keep going.'” We won, and it felt like a sigh of relief.
“I think that was the most comfortable first half we’ve had all season in terms of passing and having the ball.”
“There are a lot of good things to take away, but we still have a lot to work on. As the season goes on, I’m sure you’ll see our best.”
Rice also thinks that Arsenal’s team showed how mentally strong they are.
He also said, “Look, we always believe in what we do.” That’s from the boss that we keep pushing.
“There are guys on the pitch who will do anything to win.”
When asked about how emotional it got, Mikel Arteta said, “It got very emotional.” More emotional than we had hoped for, for sure.
“But I’m really happy with how many situations we made and how well we controlled the game.” When it was 2-0, the score should have been much bigger.
“This is the Premier League, though, and this is how good Leicester is.” Two goals were scored. I’m happy with how we handled that problem, though.
“Totally in control of my emotions, doing what I had to do, and attacking the spaces over and over again.” We seemed like they should have won.
