Michael Carrick praised Ben Doak after the loanee from Liverpool scored his first goal as a professional.
The winger moved to Middlesbrough on loan for the season on the last day of the summer transfer window. Doak was ranked behind Mo Salah, Luis Diaz, and Cody Gakpo at Anfield, so a short-term move was thought to be best for his growth.
The player from Celtic is highly rated at Anfield; he made his appearance when he was 16. However, he hurt his knee badly last season and needed to play a lot of first-team football. Doak has had to wait his turn at Middlesbrough, but he jumped at the chance to start against Stoke City. The 19-year-old broke the tie in a 2-0 win at the Riverside and played brilliantly when he took over on the right field from the more experienced Isiah Jones.
And Doak’s performance gave Carrick a lot of hope. Carrick, who used to play for Manchester United and is now the manager of Middlesbrough, told The Gazette, “I thought he showed what he’s all about.” “He’s a real threat, and we’re lucky to have him, Izzy, and Marcus [Forss] back on that side.” These changes will help them stay smart and bright so they can make a real difference when they play. He did that today for sure.
Get the talk going.
“He’s young, but you’re old enough if you’re good enough.” He hasn’t played a lot of football, but he has a lot of character, and when he’s come on, he’s been really eager to make an effect and grow. We kind of thought he would do that today, so it didn’t surprise me. We can’t wait to see what he can do while he’s with us.
Middlesbrough is in eighth place in the Championship table. Tomorrow night, they will be back in action when they go to West Bromwich Albion, who is in first place.
