This summer, Arsenal borrowed Raheem Sterling from Chelsea until the end of the season to play with Gabriel Jesus. However, they are still looking for a new striker who can play the number nine role permanently.
Marcus Thuram of Inter Milan has caught their attention with his great start to the season. The 27-year-old has also been linked with Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic, making him the latest player on their list, according to Caught Offside (h/t Inter Live).
Thuram is only worth £54 million on Transfermarkt, even though he has scored four goals and set up three others in six Serie A games for the Nerazzurri. Takehiro Tomiyasu, who was signed for £20 million in 2021, is being offered by Mikel Arteta to make a possible deal cheaper. The report also says that the fullback is “appreciated” in Italy because he has played for Bologna before.
Recently, the Japanese international has only been able to play on the edges. Because of this, the 25-year-old could be looking for a new challenge, which could lead to a return to Serie A.
On the other hand, Arsenal would also be better off with a strong scorer who can score goals and set up others.
A dream come true for 2025
The deal for Tomiyasu with Arsenal ends in June 2026, so the summer after next would be a great time for them to get rid of him without having to worry about losing him for free the following year.
Thuram would be a great addition to the team next summer if Gabriel Jesus does hurt himself again. Arsenal is also not expected to make Raheem Sterling’s loan deal permanent, so adding Thuram would also help out on the wings.
If the Frenchman came to Arsenal and became their first-choice striker, Kai Havertz would be able to play in a lower midfield role, giving Arteta another player who can do a lot of different things.
It will be interesting to see if Thuran is willing to leave Internazionale, where a great sports project is taking shape. However, the Premier League is still the attacker’s dream destination, and a move to Arsenal would no doubt be very appealing.
