Lionel Messi showed off a new reaction that was based on Marvel after scoring in Inter Miami’s 1-1 draw with Charlotte.
Charlotte was ahead after 56 minutes thanks to a goal from Karol Swiderski. Ten minutes later, Messi tied the game with a beautiful finish.
The forward, who used to play for Barcelona and PSG, scored his 15th goal in 16 MLS games this season. His team is currently in first place in the Eastern Conference.
Messi punched the air with joy, and then his teammates joined him. After that, the 37-year-old put his hands by his sides with the palms facing down and raised his heels like Iron Man to take off.
As he did his latest Marvel move, the Argentine forward looked up at his kids watching from the stands.
Messi had a lot of Marvel-themed parties in his first year with Miami. He reached for Thor’s Hammer, crossed his arms over his chest like Black Panther, and shot webs like Spider-Man.
Messi told the Miami Herald in August of last year that the partying started after he and his kids watched Marvel films.
He said, “My three sons are still on vacation and haven’t started school yet, so every night we watch Marvel superhero movies.”
“They came up with the idea and asked me to do a Marvel superhero celebration every time I scored a goal in a game.” That’s how it began, and we kept doing that.
A goal party was something we did every time we watched a new movie. They’re only done at home games, though, when the kids are here with me and we can enjoy the moment together. I do them when I see them in the stands.
After the draw with Charlotte, Messi got into a fight with the referee, which made things worse.
He thought that his team should have been given a penalty when Charlotte’s custodian tripped Luis Suarez in the last few seconds of the game.
