Even though the summer window’s deadline was one month ago, Liverpool-related transfer rumours keep popping up.

The main cause of this is the uncertainty surrounding the careers of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, and Virgil van Dijk.

As their current contracts are about to expire, all three players run the danger of leaving on free transfers the following summer.

The latest rumour however, if it does come to fruition, wouldn’t prove to be a direct placement for any of them.

A CaughtOffside report suggests Darwin Nunez still has the backing of new manager Arne Slot, but it’s felt that the club could be open to replacing him at the end of this season if he doesn’t show significant improvement on a fairly inconsistent first two campaigns at Anfield.

The report adds that it looks as though Sporting Lisbon goal machine Viktor Gyokeres would be the priority for the Reds if they do decide to offload the Uruguayan, with a number of other top European clubs also monitoring the in-form Sweden international.

So far this season, the 26-year-old has had yet another fantastic campaign filled with goals.Gyokeres has already tallied 14 goals and five assists this season, and he is still attracting offers from top European leagues.

After dazzling Portugal with 29 goals and 10 assists in 33 league games the previous season, the Swede was tipped to leave Sporting this summer.

In the several cup events the Portuguese team participated in last season, including the Europa League, Gyokeres scored 14 more goals for himself.Gyokeres’ stats indicate that, while he might not be a direct Salah replacement, he might be the ideal choice to take over the Egyptian’s legendary position at Anfield.
