Como’s Raphael Varane, a defender, is rumoured to be considering retirement following his most recent sickness.
The World Cup winner became a free agent this summer and signed with the freshly promoted Italian team after leaving Manchester United.
In May of this year, the 31-year-old announced his departure from United after 95 games.
Varane made his Como debut in the Coppa Italia last month, but he was forced to exit the match after suffering an injury after just 20 minutes.
Ultimately, it was discovered that the centre-back had suffered a knee injury and was left off of Cesc Fabregas’s Serie A squad because he is expected to be sidelined for an extended period of time.
Varane is reportedly considering retiring early at the age of 31 according to La Parisien.
There are rumours that the World Cup winner, who has competed at the greatest level for the past 14 years, may announce his decision shortly.
Varane began his career with Ligue 1 Lens as a young player. When he was eighteen, he left the first team after just one season and joined Real Madrid.
He played 360 games for the Spanish powerhouses over the course of the following 10 years, winning four Champions Leagues, three La Liga championships, and the Copa del Rey.
Despite injuries slowing him down, the Frenchman proved how excellent he was over his three years at Old Trafford after joining Manchester United in 2021.
Varane was the star of France’s 2018 World Cup victory and played 93 times for the national team. In 2022, he will give up playing football internationally.
The FA Cup was won by United at Wembley, where they defeated Man City 2-1 in his final match for the team.
