Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong has reportedly set his sights on a move to Liverpool, according to Bild (July 10, page 10).
His potential addition to the squad will boost the club’s quest to dethrone Manchester City.
The 23-year-old Dutchman has been causing a stir in the Bundesliga, receiving high praise for his exceptional performances.
Frimpong was instrumental in Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga title victory last season. As they successfully secured the DFB-Pokal, he was also a critical player.
He is a versatile defender who can play in a variety of positions, despite having predominantly played as a right-wing-back under Xabi Alonso.
Last season, Frimpong made an impressive 26 goal contributions in 47 appearances across all competitions.
He is presently competing for the Netherlands at the 2024 European Championship; however, upon his return from the tournament, he may be sold.
In the aftermath of an exceptional 2023/24 campaign, the former Celtic and Manchester City wing-back will be in high demand.
Nevertheless, Liverpool may not be the optimal destination for the Leverkusen defender. At present, the Reds are not in the market for a right-back.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is a member of Liverpool’s squad. His contract expires in 2025, which may induce some anxiety; however, there is an expectation that he will extend it.
Last term, Conor Bradley executed an exceptional breakout campaign, effectively filling in for Alexander-Arnold in his absence. Additionally, Liverpool has Joe Gomez on standby to address any deficiencies.
Despite Frimpong’s aspirations to relocate to Anfield, the Liverpool squad is currently unable to accommodate an additional right-back.
