MANUEL UGARTE put his body on the line to win over Man Utd fans on his full debut.
The Uruguayan midfielder was left Ƅloodied out on the field during Utd’s 7-0 demolition of Barnsley.
Manuel Ugarte enjoyed a strong debut in the Carabao Cup against Barnsley
The Uruguayan was left bleeding on the pitch after a clash with Luca Connell
Days after making his Red Devils debut off the bench against Southampton, Ugarte started the Carabao Cup match.
At Old Trafford, the 23-year-old displayed his aggressive side during a fierce first half.
But in a fight with Luca Connell of the Tykes, the former PSG player came off second best.
Some Utd fans claimed Connell “stamped” on the Uruguayan as he went in for a tackle, but he escaped without a booking.
Ugarte was left with Ƅlood streaming down his leg after being caught by Connell’s studs.
One fan raged on X: “Barnsley get a freekick for a stamp on Ugarte, you cannot make the bias against United up anymore. Mind blowing decision.”
The £50m summer arrival returned to the contest after being treated by medics on the touchline.
Seeing him return to the field, another fan wrote: “I still can’t believe Ugarte has shedded Ƅlood and is still on pitch. This is real passion for the club man.”
While a third said: “Fantastic performance from Ugarte on his first start, a few less fouls given away would be good but he’s a warrior.”
And a fourth commented: “Ugarte just might be him.”
Ugarte put in a solid 63 minutes of work before being replaced by Bruno Fernandes.
United put Barnsley to the sword on a tough night for the League One outfit.
Backed by 6,500 vocal fans, the South Yorkshire side held out for just 16 minutes before the floodgates opened.
For the first time since March, Marcus Rashford scored in back-to-back games to get things going for the home team.
Before the half, goals from Anthony and Alejandro Garnacho made it 3-0, and Eric Ten Hag’s team did not let up.
Following the interval, Garnacho and Rashford each added another goal, while Christian Eriksen’s two goals off the bench rounded out the score.
