Lionel Messi helped a young blind Arsenal fan by giving the child a pair of glasses made by OrCam Technologies that will change their lives.
The Barcelona star has teamed up with the Israeli company to start a relationship that will bring more attention to the problems that blind and visually impaired people face around the world.
Every year, Messi will give the OrCam MyEye device to blind or visually impaired people with amazing stories. Some of these people he will meet in Barcelona.
Once that happens, these people will join the so-called “OrCam Dream Team,” which is led by Messi.
Mikey, a blind football player from Enfield, London, aged 10, was the most recent receiver of the £4,200 OrCam glasses. His parents say they have helped him become more independent.
Just before the coronavirus pandemic started, Messi met 12 blind people in Barcelona and gave them their devices. He became a member of the “OrCam Dream Team.”
The 33-year-old Argentina star said that giving out the device was one of the most moving things that had ever happened to him.
The meeting made him feel “incredible,” he said. The moment I met this wonderful group of people from all over the world was truly magical and uplifting.
As I watched the “Dream Team” members try out the OrCam MyEye features, it became clear that this gadget would change their lives in many ways.
“I’m proud to be an OrCam Ambassador because I can help a lot of people.”
About 300 million people around the world are blind or have some other vision impairment.
