HARD REACTION: Fans furious at ‘blatant robbery’ after Arsenal star Jurrien Timber escapes red card after referee ‘screws up’

Fans believe that the referee “bottled” giving Jurrien Timber a red card against Tottenham, and that Timber should have been sent off.

In the first half, the defender, playing in his first North London Derby, tackled someone and started a brawl.

He engaged Pedro Porro in a 50/50 battle, with the Spurs defender coming out on the short end.

After he went over the ball with his studs, Timber caught him on the ankle, resulting in a yellow card from referee Jarred Gillett.

According to Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp, the Arsenal player was “lucky” to avoid receiving a red card; other referees would have dismissed him.

“It’s an unusual action because he does go over the top of the ball,” he remarked. He rolls his foot, which is an odd movement for someone who would often challenge you with a side foot.

“He is extremely fortunate. Has he entered using undue force to harm him like he has in the past? No.

“He has placed a significant choice in the hands of the referee. He’s quite fortunate, in my opinion, because other refs might have given him a warning.

It’s a curious one, he doesn’t need to go in like that. Has he really caught him? No, but that isn’t the main idea.

“It’s excessive force, I think he’s lucky.”

While some supporters thought Timber should have received a second booking for his collision with Tottenham goalie Gugliemo Vicario, others disagreed with Redknapp.

In an aggressive come together, he grabbed the Italian by the shirt, but only Vicario received a yellow card.
