Lionel Messi, the famous Argentine football player, has a new job as a spokesman for Sayyar, a high-end clothing brand in Saudi Arabia.
In a recent promotion posted on the brand’s Instagram page, Messi, who plays for Inter Miami, was seen wearing the full traditional outfit, which includes a white thobe and a red-and-white scarf.
In the campaign film, Messi poses for the camera and moves his hat around. He holds an orange box with the brand’s name at the end of the video.
Messi has played in a game with Saudi Arabia before.
The “Saudi, Welcome To Arabia” brand was launched by the Saudi Tourism Authority in January with a global marketing campaign. Messi was chosen to be the face of the campaign.
The “Go Beyond What You Think” campaign was launched in Europe, India, and China, three important target markets. According to the press release, it was “based on consumer insights that revealed there are still common misconceptions about the destination.” It told people to “experience the amazing and vibrant cultural transformation taking place across Saudi.”
Messi went to India with his family in May of last year and saw At-Turaif, a 300-year-old UNESCO World Heritage Site in Diriyah.
He went on a trip with a guide in Diriyah and had a great meal at Al-Bujairi Terrace.
Messi and his family later went to VIA Riyadh and Boulevard Riyadh City, two of the city’s most up-to-date shopping and entertainment areas. At the Arabian Horse Museum, they got to meet and play with real Arabian horses. After the game, Messi posed for shots with a white falcon on his arm.
