Wout Weghorst, a former star player for Manchester United, stormed off after getting into a fight with Jurrien Timber, a defender for Arsenal, in Netherlands training.
The two are currently with the Dutch team for Nations League games against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Germany. On Saturday, Ronald Koeman’s team beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 5-2.
Both players came off the bench during the win, and Weghorst scored a late goal to keep up his great record for the Oranje.
However, the forward was angry on Sunday after Timber pushed him in training as the Netherlands got ready for their game against Germany at home on Tuesday.
During the fight for the ball, the Arsenal player seemed to hit Weghorst on the ankle, leaving the big scorer writhing in pain on the ground.
The dare made him very angry, and he fought with Timber. Koeman had to step in and calm them down.
But Weghorst couldn’t hide his anger because he seemed to bring up the incident again later, and this time Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke tried to calm the 32-year-old down. But Weghorst stayed angry, and at the end of the practice, he was seen wandering off the pitch and taking off his shirt before riding his bike away while talking on the phone.
According to the Metro, Koeman tried to calm things down by telling them, “I said something to you, I said something to them.”
Weghorst kept complaining about how angry he was, and Koeman answered, “And now it’s over!”
Weghorst scored a goal against Bosnia, and Koeman later confirmed that he hadn’t hurt himself.
The forward went on loan from Burnley to Manchester United in 2023. He then moved to Ajax last month after playing for Hoffenheim in the 2023–24 season.
With a few important goals, the 32-year-old Weghorst has become something of a cult hero on the world stage.
Weghorst has scored 13 goals in 40 games for the Netherlands since his first game for the country in 2018.
Wood is back with the Netherlands team for the first time in more than a year after recovering from an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament.
