Arsene Wenger star Riccardo Calafiori seemed to have hurt himself in a freak accident during a Nations League game.
The 22-year-old Calafiori joined Italy for their important game against France on Friday at Parc des Princes.
The centre-back went back to playing for his country after having great games at Euro 2024, which is what led to his £42 million move from Bologna to the Emirates this summer.
The North Londoners will be tense, though, because the Italy player hobbled off the pitch in the 71st minute.
Everything started when Alessandro Bastoni, Calafiori’s teammate, and Ousmane Dembele, France’s star player, got into a fight in the 66th minute.
The star player for Inter Milan, Bastoni, tackled Dembele of PSG and threw him into the air.
When he fell, the forward’s left foot hit Calafiori’s left leg, studs first, and hit him in the back of the knee.
The Arsenal star may have slightly turned his ankle, but he still tried to play through it. Five minutes later, Alessandro Buongiorno came on to replace him.
Since he joined Mikel Arteta’s team in July, Calafiori needed some time to get ready for a game.
Last month, in the first game of the Premier League season, Wolves, the back was on the bench.
A week later, though, the former Roma star made his start as a substitute at Aston Villa.
After coming on as a substitute in last week’s draw with Brighton, Calafiori made his Emirates debut.
In Group A’s first Nations League game, Italy beat France by scoring twice in the second half after falling behind.
Within 13 seconds, Bradley Barcola scored, giving France the lead.
But Italy tied it up when Federico Dimarco and Sandro Tonali played a nice one-two and Dimarco hit a hard shot into the top corner.
In the 51st minute, Davide Frattesi changed the course of the game for Italy.
And it was a shocking turn of events for the guests when Destiny Udogie set up Giacomo Raspadori to score a goal past Mike Maignan.
