Carl Jenkinson, a former Arsenal player, said that Mikel Arteta has an “aura” like Thierry Henry, a legendary Gunners player, and that “when he walks in the room and talks, you listen.”
During his time in charge, the Spaniard has turned the north London team from underachievers to regular title hopes.
They came very close to winning the Premier League for the first time in 20 years last season, missing out by just two points to Pep Guardiola’s Man City in a very exciting title game.
Along with their Manchester foes, the Emirates team came into the season as the favorites. They have had a good start with two wins and a draw in their first three games.
And Jenkinson, who used to play defense for Arsenal, told talkSPORT what Arteta did to be so successful there.
‘Arteta has an air that you can’t make up if you get what I mean.
“You listen to the way he talks and when he walks into the room and talks.”Of course, he knows a lot about football, but that’s not something that can be taught.
“I think Thierry Henry is the only other one that comes to mind.”
“But Mikel just had that.” You paid attention when he spoke.
Jenkinson and Arteta both joined Arsenal in 2011, but their success in north London was not the same.
The English defender only played 70 times for the team over eight years. To get more game time, he had to go on loan to West Ham, Birmingham, and Nottingham Forest.
The 32-year-old player doesn’t have a team right now because he left Newcastle United Jets in Australia in the summer.
Arteta, on the other hand, played 150 times for Arsenal and was captain of the team from 2014 until he retired in 2016.
He led and passed the ball perfectly, running Arsene Wenger’s middle while he was at Arsenal and winning the FA Cup and Super Cup twice.
This season, the Spanish player will try to win the Premier League title that eluded him during his playing career. Jenkinson is one of many fans who want him to end 20 years of Arsenal pain.
