ARSENAL fans were furious with referee Chris Kavanagh after Brighton forward Joao Pedro didn’t get a yellow card for kicking the ball away, but Declan Rice did and got a second yellow card for the same offense.
They were down to 10 men four minutes into the second half at the Emirates when they were ahead 1-0, but Brighton scored to tie the game at 1.
Rice got his first yellow card for a late hit on Joel Veltman just before halftime. He then got into a second fight with the Dutch defender that got him sent off.
When Brighton got a free kick, Veltman tried to take it quickly, but Rice pushed the ball out of play.
Veltman then went through Rice with a swipe, but referee Kavanagh saw it coming and sent off the Arsenal player.
On the other hand, the official did nothing about another moment of protest in the first half.
Diego Pedro, a 22-year-old star for Brighton, couldn’t keep the ball in play when he tried to get away down the left side in the 18th minute.
But once it was out, he kicked the ball down the floor towards David Raya, the Gunners’ custodian.
The Arsenal players were furious, but Kavanagh didn’t think it was a serious enough crime to get them booked.
When Rice was then sent off, Arsenal fans went to X to vent their anger.
One person said, “Everyone acts like Rice deserved a second yellow for that.” Absolutely awful calling. Again, there are two sets of rules.
“Joao Pedro did the same thing in a way more aggressive way in the first half and didn’t get a card.”
