Raheem Sterling has end his stay away from Chelsea by making a shocking loan move to Arsenal.
It was a very exciting transfer deadline day, as Jadon Sancho was also getting close to moving to Stamford Bridge. The Gunners quickly grabbed Sterling from their London rivals, as they got closer to finally finishing their search for a new attacker.
As part of the deal, which was completed early Saturday morning, there is no obligation to buy.
I can’t believe how I feel. It’s really cool. They said, “I’m buzzing.”
“We kind of waited too long for this one, but I was hoping for it.” Once I saw everything, I thought, “This is perfect for me.” I’m so glad we were able to finish it.
“I talked to [sporting director] Edu and told him that you can see how close the boys are becoming from Mikel’s time here and the journey they are on.”
“You can see their hunger, and I keep saying that I want to be a part of their togetherness.”
Sterling was told by Enzo Maresca that he has no future at Chelsea, and the club has been trying to find him a new place to play.
In a release, Chelsea said, “Sterling, a winger for Chelsea, has finished his season-long loan move to Arsenal.”
Rameem moved to Chelsea from Manchester City in the summer of 2022. In 81 games, he has scored 19 goals.
“He will now play the rest of the season at the Emirates.” Best of luck, Raheem.
Thursday, Mail Sport said that Arsenal had made an offer for Sterling and Kingsley Coman from Bayern Munich.
And Arsenal made it official that they were interested in Sterling on Friday afternoon, before finishing up the deal’s details.
Sterling’s £325,000-a-week salary was also seen as the main reason he couldn’t leave during the window. That being said, both teams have agreed on how to split his salary while he is on loan.
There will be a reunion between the 29-year-old and Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, with whom he worked well at Manchester City.
Also, Sancho will replace Sterling at Stamford Bridge after he completes a loan move from Manchester United, where he was not liked by head coach Erik ten Hag after a public fight.
The player, who used to play for Borussia Dortmund, will join the London team on loan with an option to buy. According to sources, the price to buy the property permanently is around £23 million.
