The Colombian was in red hot form as he scored and helped their new manager’s home debut to be a comfortable win.
Arne Slot started life at Anfield on the right foot as Liverpool defeated Brentford 2-0 and carried on with a 100% start under Jurgen Klopp’s replacement under a sizzling Luis Diaz.
Recovering the ball just outside Liverpool’s area, Diogo Jota released Diaz, who rocketed a shot into the top corner, so Slot’s first Premier League goal at Liverpool’s home seemed very much like one they had scored hundreds of times under Klopp.
At set pieces, Brentford posed a threat; Liverpool appeared to be rather calm in the second half and set out seeking another goal. Eventually, though much farther up the pitch, they got it from another change-of direction as Diaz lay the ball off and Mohamed Salah shot into the far corner.
Goalkeeper & Defence
Alisson (6/10):
On top of the few shots that came his way, the best when he tipped and then punched away a Nathan Collins header.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (8/10):
Always getting involved in the attack, constant supply of incisive balls from the right. Not far from scoring straight from a corner, hitting the bar instead.
Ibrahima Konate (6/10):
Stayed alert throughout, cutting out two potentially dangerous crosses.
Virgil van Dijk (6/10):
Anticipated the danger well without ever looking in trouble.
Andrew Robertson (6/10):
Had two promising attacks but was thwarted each time by Mark Flekken.
Midfield
Ryan Gravenberch (5/10):
Didn’t have the most fluid games but his 50/50 tackle led to the breakaway for the first goal.
Alexis Mac Allister (6/10):
Conducted a lot of the best attacks, including the second goal, with clever through balls.
Dominik Szoboszlai (6/10):
Did a fine defensive job, especially when he won the ball back right before Salah struck.
Attack
Mohamed Salah (6/10):
Missed a half-chance in the first half and looked a bit off the pace until he produced a vintage finish to kill the game off. Two goals for the Egyptian in two games.
Diogo Jota (6/10):
Set up the opener with a driving run and pass to Diaz but did not have his best day in front of goal.
Luis Diaz (8/10):
Superb from start to finish. Dazzled any Brentford player who tried to get near him, scored with a drilled finish, was unlucky not to strike again and then made the second.
Subs & Manager
Cody Gakpo (6/10):
Looked keen to score and was not far from doing so.
Darwin Nunez (5/10):
Had one attempt but had been caught offside anyway.
Conor Bradley (5/10):
Didn’t get too involved when he replaced Alexander-Arnold.
Harvey Elliot (N/A):
Came on in the 83rd minute.
Wataro Endo (N/A):
Brought on right at the end.
Arne Slot (6/10):
A very straightforward home bow and was able to take his key assets off early.
