Football’s two all-time greats were introduced to each other by David Beckham on Saturday night, after inviting Tom Brady to watch Lionel Messi play for Inter Miami.
Messi, the great player for Argentina, had to watch from the stands because he hurt his ankle. But he did meet Brady, the seven-time Super Bowl winner, to celebrate after Miami beat Cincinnati 2-0 to make the Major League Soccer playoffs.
And Brady joked that he was going to bring Messi to Birmingham after the game, where he has a small stake in the English team. On Instagram, he said, “I’m taking Leo Messi back to Birmingham with me.” I’m sorry, David Beckham.
Brady was also given a pink Miami Dolphins shirt by Beckham before the game on Saturday.
Beckham labeled the picture with “THE GREATEST” and tagged Brady and Messi with two “goat” emojis. “Seeing us make the playoffs is the best thing ever.”
Brady, 47, and Beckham, 37, have known each other for a long time and have spent time with each other’s families in Miami. Brady now lives in Florida, in a brand-new $17 million home in Tampa, four hours away from Miami. He used to play football in the NFL.
Messi, who won the World Cup, moved to Miami last year, which sparked a new buzz around the game in the US.
Beckham was the main reason why the former Barcelona player, who is thought to be the best player of all time in his sport, came to America and joined the team he co-owns.
Once Beckham got his man, he rolled out the red carpet, with a little help from Brady.
He introduced Messi to the world at an event with many famous people at Miami’s Freedom Park stadium in July of last year. Brady was one of many stars who sent Messi a welcome message that was shown on the big screens.
In the autumn of that year, Messi led Miami to their first League Cup win since Beckham started the team, but they didn’t make the playoffs.
Brady has looked up to Messi for a long time. Before the 2018 Super Bowl, which Brady’s New England Patriots lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, the QB talked about how he looks up to Messi as an athlete outside of football.
According to Sports Illustrated, Brady said, “I love Messi; he is a great player, but I am a little older than him.”
It’s something I’ve loved for a long time. He’s a great player, and I admire him.
Brady is about to start a $375 million, 10-year contract as an NFL analyst for FOX. He also got involved with the other football after becoming a partial owner of the English team Birmingham last year.
