Joe Gomez of Liverpool is a player that NEWCASTLE UNITED is thinking about acquiring to replace Marc Guehi.
Newcastle are interested in Joe GomezThe Magpies have had multiple bids rejected for Marc Guehi
Despite a fourth proposal being turned down, they are still pursuing Crystal Palace’s Guehi, 24, although they may now turn their focus to another England international.
The longest-serving player at Liverpool, Gomez, was said to be heading to St. James’ Park as part of a trade that would have sent Anthony Gordon to Anfield earlier in the summer.
After that, Toon began pursuing Guehi; but, it’s now thought that they may instead focus on 27-year-old Gomez, who is valued at £45 million.
The versatile player has not requested to go, and manager Arne Slot is not actively seeking to sell, but he was left out of Liverpool’s victory over Ipswich on Saturday in order to evaluate his future.
However, Fabian Schar’s impending three-match suspension for headbutting Ben Brereton Diaz has increased Newcastle’s need for defensive reinforcements.
They might also have competition from Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Aston Villa, and Fulham for his signature.
Before moving to Anfield in 2015, Gomez went through the Charlton academy.
The defender has made 224 appearances for the Reds in all competitions since making his debut.
Eddie Howe’s first priority right now is finding a new centre-back, but Gomez’s less expensive option would free up cash for other team investments.
Although Toon are interested in signing Barcelona’s former Manchester City star Ferran Torres and a few other players in that position, a move to add another right-winger seems unlikely.
The 24-year-old winger, who is valued at £25.5 million by Nou Camp officials, started their first La Liga match of the season.
Toon’s representation have made it known to the Spanish media that he wants to stay and fight for his spot with Barca, despite rumours that he is putting together a compelling offer to try to entice him back to England.
Torres made 42 appearances across all competitions and netted 11 goals in the previous campaign.
The attacker played in 43 games for the Premier League, tallying 16 goals and dishing out six assists.
