DIAMOND NAME: Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has been named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year for the 2023-24 season

Virgil van Dijk, the captain of Liverpool, has been selected for the 2023-24 season’s PFA Premier League Team of the Year.

Since joining the Reds in January 2018, the centre-back has been chosen for the annual XI by the professional players of the nation for the fourth time.

In 2019, 2020, and 2022, Van Dijk was also chosen by his colleagues.

Liverpool secured a return to Champions League football and finished third in the Premier League last season, during which time the Netherlands captain made 36 league appearances and scored two goals.

Van Dijk scored the deciding goal in extra time as the Reds defeated Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley to win the Carabao Cup in February during his first year sporting the armband for the club.

At the 2024 PFA Awards ceremony in Manchester this evening, his inclusion in the most recent Team of the Year was disclosed.
