Amad Diallo was undoubtedly Manchester United’s standout player as they defeated Real Betis 3-2 in San Diego on Thursday.

In what was arguably Man United’s best pre-season performance so far, they thrilled their US fans by producing a fast-paced attacking display.

In a handful of minutes, Erik ten Hag’s team almost opened the scoring after seizing the initiative right away.

Amad, who expertly threaded a through pass to Jadon Sancho, who buried it into the back of the net, was the focal point of the onslaught. Unfortunately, it turned out that he was a little off.

Amad wouldn’t need to wait long before his next opportunity to shine, however. With the scoreline at 1-1, the winger sparked to life in the 24th minute, getting on the end of a top-notch cross from Harry Amass. Amad took just one touch before hammering the ball into the far corner, leaving the keeper with no chance as he handed United the lead.

In the second half, Amad continued to show energy and grit, providing Casemiro with a well-placed through ball to set him up for a shot from distance.

After he was substituted in the 62nd minute, United struggled to maintain their attacking form without Amad in their ranks.

The rising star was a constant presence in the final third, with one shot on target and another blocked. He completed two of his three dribbles while also notably winning the penalty that Rashford converted.

Amad’s passing game was of an elite level. At 92% accuracy, 22 of his 24 passes reached their intended target. He also completed three key passes, the most of any player from either team.

The winger showed immense quality on the ball, winning seven of his 10 ground duels as well as his only aerial battle of the night.

While Amad may be focused on supporting United’s attacking efforts, he did an immense job of dropping back in defence. He completed four defensive actions, the most of either team, namely two tackles and two interceptions.

Overall, it appeared as if Amad couldn’t be faulted, as he proved to be crucial on the attack while useful in defence. United fans will surely be excited to see what he produces for his side when the new season gets underway.
