Commenting on Caught Offside, journalist Fabrizio Romano shared his thoughts on the deal of Newcastle striker Anthony Gordon joining Liverpool.
Since the 2024 summer transfer window in England officially opened, the future of striker Gordon has received much attention in the media, especially from Liverpool fans because The Kop is said to be the team that most wants to have the service of the 23-year-old winger as a replacement in case the duo Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz leave Anfield in the near future when the two players are being sought after by many teams.
In fact, the Reds were close to the English star at the end of June, when Newcastle wanted to sell Gordon to make a profit and avoid falling into trouble with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), but the deal failed to reach its goal because both teams could not find a common voice at the negotiating table.
Liverpool want Gordon’s services.
Although there is information that Liverpool has not given up on the former Everton star, according to journalist Romano, this deal is unlikely to happen at the end of this summer transfer window.
“Liverpool tried to complete the signing of Gordon in June but Newcastle did not give the green light. Although negotiations have resumed, there has been little progress . Liverpool have not submitted any offers, everything is still quiet at the negotiating table, we need to wait,” Romano said on Caught Offside.
Gordon joined Newcastle from Everton in the winter transfer window of 2023. Last season, the striker born in 2001 played impressively with 11 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League.
