Following claims in Germany that Liverpool has “expressed interest” in RB Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan, club sources have provided their position.
Sky is Though he insisted there had been no offers, Germany’s Philipp Hinze stated on Monday night that both Liverpool and Atletico Madrid expressed interest in Simakan.
Given his age, pedigree in the Bundesliga, and ability to play center-back and right-back, links with the 24-year-old make obvious sense.
And given a price tag of about Β£38 million discussed, Simakan may fairly match Liverpool’s expenditure pattern independent of his position under Arne Slot.
But with Ian Doyle of the Liverpool Echo offering an update, Liverpool has now distances themselves from claims of interest in the Frenchman.
Doyle notes that the club “aren’t presently considering a move” for Simakan, in line with the Reds’ pattern of discounting relationships with several targets.
Sources at Anfield have before refuted rumours of deals for Sporting CP center-back Goncalo Inacio, Porto defensive midfielder Alan Varela, Atalanta midfielder Ederson, and Athletic Club winger Nico Williams.
Those under Liverpool’s new recruitment structure, under Michael Edwards’s direction and underlined by sporting director Richard Hughes, are obviously open to briefing the media regarding speculated objectives.
But with a recurring trend throughout Edwards’ period as sporting directorβtransports would be carried out in the shadowsβthere is little sign of who the Reds are aggressively hunting.
Julian Ward, his successor, kept this strategy, and Hughes most certainly followed this line of thinking.
Liverpool has also been associated with the likes of Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna, Willian Pacho from Eintracht Frankfurt, and Ousmane Diomande from Sporting CP.
At this pace, though, it seems more probable that any fresh signings will blindside supporters trying to keep up with the ins and outs at Anfield.
