Kylian Mbappe has been formally unveiled as a Real Madrid player at a packed Bernabeu Stadium.
The 25-year-old France skipper’s impending arrival after the expiry of his contract at Paris Saint-Germain was announced last month, and he officially became a Real player on July 1 after seven hugely-successful years at the Parc des Princes, the first of them on loan from Monaco.
He was introduced to a rapturous reception on Tuesday afternoon in Madrid following his return from Euro 2024, speaking in Spanish to the delight of the assembled crowd, which included his parents Wilfried Mbappe and Fayza Lamari, after being introduced by president Florentino Perez.
Kylian Mbappe speaks during a press conference at the Santiago Bernabeu:
“My French teammates (Camavinga, Tchouameni) always told me come here, Vinicius texted me and told me to come, to join Real Madrid!”.
“I can’t wait to play with him, Bellingham and all the other top players at the club”.
“Vinicius messaged me a lot, asking me to come and that we would play together in attack.”
“Vinicius is a unique player, I’m very happy to play with him, but also Rodrygo and all the others. I won’t have problems playing with him. He had a perfect season, it’s me who has to adapt to them to win.”
Mbappe’s presence will make Real Madrid’s attack cramped. Vinicius is the one most affected because he plays in the same position as Mbappe, both of whom prefer to play left striker.
But as revealed by AS, the French star is willing to play the number 9 role, the highest position in Real Madrid’s attack.
“Kylian understands that at Real Madrid he will have many chances to win the Champions League and the Golden Ball. And if he also wins the Golden Boot then that would be fantastic. That’s why Mbappe is excited about playing the number 9 role to have more chance to score goals,” AS said.
In addition, Mbappe also believes in scoring many goals when receiving support from top satellites such as Vinicius, Rodrygo and Jude Bellingham.
Mbappe has the knack of running on the left wing to take advantage of his superior speed. However, the French player also plays well in the center position. This season, the PSG striker has scored 41 goals on all fronts, including 26 goals as a center forward and 15 goals as a left striker.
With Mbappe agreeing to play the number 9 role, it can be imagined that Real Madrid’s offensive front next season will include Vinicius on the left wing, Mbappe in the center and Rodrygo on the right. However, the mobility of this trio can create a transformative attack for Real Madrid.
