A third said: “Great to see better financial management from a salaries perspective!“

Another commented: “Only £56k a week. Look at my club acting grown up”

A fifth said: “That’s great. Manchester United is a serious club now.”

While a sixth added: “Ed Woodward would have placed him on £100k+ p/w already. I don’t recognize my club no more.”

Zirkzee caught United boss Erik Ten Hag’s eye with 12 goals in 37 appearances last season.

Additionally, he was selected for the Netherlands’ Euro 2024 squad as a result of his outstanding final Serie A season.

In their quarterfinal triumph over Turkey, he made his debut for them. Zirkzee then earned his second cap in the Dutch team’s dramatic semifinal loss to England.

Following that game, Zirkzee and Kobbie Mainoo, his new teammate, were seen having a lengthy talk.

He said: “Having had discussions with the manager and the leaders of the club I know how exciting the future is going to be here and I cannot wait to play my part in achieving success for Manchester United.

“I am a player who has always dedicated everything to winning; I’m ready for this next challenge, to go to another level in my career and win more trophies.

“It is a privilege to join such an iconic club.

“I have to take a short break now after being with the national team, but I’ll be coming back ready to make an impact straight away.”
