DEVIL COMEBACK: Mason Greenwood begins pre-season training with Ex-Man Utd teammates on a £100-an-hour plastic pitch as he prepares for transfer exit in the summer

MASON GREENWOOD has started pre-season training early – on a £100-an-hour plastic pitch.

The Manchester United striker was pictured being put through his paces under the watchful eye of his agent dad along with his former United teammate Shola Shoretire in Manchester on Friday.

Greenwood – who wore a Jamaica national shirt for the session – still doesn’t know where he will be playing next season.

He returned to Old Trafford following a loan deal with LaLiga club Getafe, which saw him score ten goals and register six assists in 36 appearances, winning player of the year.

Getafe president Angel Torres has already admitted that he would love Greenwood to return to Estadio Coliseum this summer.

In May he told Radio Marca: “If it depends on the boy and the parents, he will continue another year.

“Manchester, the news we have from last week, the thing is that if there is a good offer they would like to sell.

“Because he is not going to return there.

“So we are going to have to wait a month and a half or two months, until the end of June.

“But it depends on him and the family. They are very comfortable and very happy with the fans.

Greenwood is not expected to return to Carrington next week

“He had not played for 16 months when he arrived and we have recovered him, he has scored 8 goals in the League and 2 in the Cup and he has given a great performance.

“What I think is that he is going to stay. It’s going to be another year or half a year, until January. This year starting from scratch can be a spectacle.”

Despite Getafe’s interest, the Spanish side would likely struggle to afford him.

Stars including Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford are due back at United’s Carrington training base on Monday for the first day of pre-season training.

But Greenwood, 22, is unlikely to join his teammates.

Several European clubs have expressed interest in signing the player, with Marseille and Lazio favourites to strike a deal.

United want around £34m for the academy graduate.

They ruled he would leave the club to continue his career after charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive behaviour were dropped by the CPS last year.

Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 following allegations of attempted rape and assault.

A club internal review followed and United bosses ruled that Greenwood should ply his trade away from Old Trafford.

United’s new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe opened the door earlier this season to bring the troubled star back, saying the club needed to make a “fresh decision”

Greenwood remains on United’s list of retained players and his contract at Old Trafford runs until 2025, with the club having the option to extend it by another 12 months.
