EXTRAORDINARY INK: Dominik Szoboszlai reveals that the ‘Steven Gerrard ink’ is the ‘most important reason’ he joined Liverpool

Szoboszlai became Jurgen Klopp’s second purchase of the summer on Sunday when he transferred from RB Leipzig to Liverpool for £60 million.

His arrival comes after that of Alexis MacAllister, who signed from Brighton and has been wearing the No. 10 jersey that Sadio Mane wore prior to his departure for Bayern Munich in the summer.

The No. 8 jersey, which was primarily used by Gerrard, was given to Szoboszlai when Naby Keita departed the team.

Many Liverpool players have always looked up to Gerrard because of his achievements in Istanbul and dedication to the Merseyside club.

The late England midfielder, who is tattooed with the words, “Talent is a divine blessing, but without incredible will and humility, it is worth nothing,” on his arm, is another person for whom Szoboszlai has admiration.

At last, the 22-year-old is showcasing the full extent of his strength.

Szoboszlai describes Gerrard’s tattoo.

The Hungary international explained his decision to wear the No. 8 jersey in an interview with LFCTV upon his arrival at Anfield.

It’s a big number, he said, but not for any particular reason.

This number has been heavily utilised by great players.

In addition, Steven Gerrard gave me a tattoo and made a once-mentioned statement that I cannot even remember.

Before Emile Heskey replaced Gerrard as the number eight, Oyvind Leonhardsen, Stan Collymore, Jamie Redknapp, and Paul Stewart all wore it prominently.

Szoboszlai will attempt to revive Liverpool’s title ambitions by replicating Gerrard’s exploits in a red shirt following a dismal 2022–23 campaign.
